Best (and Worst) Celebrity Kitchens

Let’s be honest – we’re all curious about how the other half (or in this case, the 0.01%) lives. So today’s blog takes a peek into the kitchens of some of the most well-known ladies and gents in the media. I’ve scoured the Internet to find my favorite celebrity kitchens, and along the way I encountered a few rooms which were in desperate need of a makeover. Check out the celebs who aced it – and those who need to watch a little more HGTV!

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi

Elle Décor recently did a huge spread of Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi’s ranch in Hidden Valley, California. With an estimated value of $10 million, each room in this rustic but refined abode holds vintage delights, but the kitchen in Cabin 6 is my absolute favorite. (Yes, there are several cabins on the sprawling property!)  I love the stone table and the way they’ve combined modern (midcentury Norwegian chairs by Ib Kofod Larsen) and vintage (19th century American Windsor dining chairs). My only complaint? I love to cook, and there’s not much counter space.

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux

While we’re all glad that Jennifer Aniston finally found her happy ending with new hubby Justin Theroux, America’s princess could use a new kitchen for her castle. There are no flagrant design violations here, but something about the shapes (rectangles and circles) and colors (red, blue, yellow) have a nursery school kind of vibe. While the flat-panel cabinets do complement the modern style of the house, the hardware looks cheap. The attached eat-in area is always a plus, but I like stools with backs for a little support while I’m sitting – and you know those photos are going to get knocked off the counter.

Chris Evans

Yikes! In 2013, Avengers star Chris Evans snagged this Hollywood Hills property for $3.52 million. I’d say that this 4,600 square foot 1940s ‘charmer’ needs updating, but it was updated -less than a year before Evans bought it! Note to redecorators: if you’re going to redo your kitchen before you sell it, do not paint it flamingo pink. You normally can’t go wrong with wooden beams, but the blonde wood and over-the-top hardware just look bizarre. I do like the unique design of the kitchen island, and I’m sure it has incredible views, but let’s hope that Chris at least repainted after moving in.

Ellen Pompeo

Elle Décor did a fabulous photo shoot in Ellen Pompeo’s home, which she shares with her husband and daughter. Eye candy included this shot of her cozy, functional kitchen. I love the simplicity of the open shelving, the single large piece of artwork, and the striped rug atop those gorgeous terra-cotta floor tiles (imported from France!). I’m a sucker for beautiful pots and pans, and Ellen’s are on display and easily reachable from the stove.

Zosia Mamet

The star of HBO’s Girls needs a more adult decorating style. This is the kind of kitchen that you get if you move in with two roommates, and each has something she wants to contribute. Cowskin rug? Sure! Put it between the dark wood buffet and the narrow blonde island. The light fixtures are garish and outdated, and I’m not too sure what that metal pole is doing on the right side of the room. Is it just me, or are those white cabinets missing handles?

There you have it, folks. These celebrities have plenty of money to decorate, but some make wiser choices than others. Which kitchen is your favorite?
