Below is a list of shopping experiences you can expect in High Point, as well as a few “Advisor Tips.”
Home Furnishings Superstores
These showrooms and furniture marts offer every kind of home furnishing gathered in one place, affording you the ability to find the rug to match your sofa, curtains to complement your colors, and accessories to complete your statement. Yet these stores can be difficult to navigate, and the selection is overwhelming. You can walk for miles in a single store. The perfect piece may be there, and you may never find it.
Is it really is a good deal?
Advisor tip: Yes. These gigantic showrooms have thousands of items on display, but their overhead is low. Some manufacturers consign their furniture; others sell it to the superstores at huge discounts, eager for a presence in stores with such enormous sales. At least one High Point store sold over $100,000,000 last year. This volume also enables the superstores to command extra discounts from their manufacturers, and pass those savings on to you. With no inventory costs and employees working on 100% commission, the savings are real.
Do all stores take credit cards?
Advisor tip: Some stores don’t take credit cards, so bring your checkbook.
What if I’m doing multiple rooms?
Advisor tip: Start here. They look too beautiful, clean, and expensive to offer value, but can be your best option for projects consisting of several rooms or more.
Manufacturer Showrooms
Showrooms offer a wide array of new styles, colors and trend forward designs by designated manufacturers. If you love Maitland Smith, Henredon or another furniture manufacturer, you’ll see the best selection at their showrooms.
Are sales seasonal?
Advisor tip: Showrooms traditionally hold annual sales in February and March. Sample sales are held before and after the International Furniture Market in October and April. You’ll find the best deals approximately two months prior to furniture market, when manufacturers are clearing inventory to make way for new product.
Are manufacturers’ showrooms open to the public?
Advisor tip: Most manufacturers’ showrooms are not. You’ll need to be accompanied by a designer, and he or she should call in advance to make an appointment and check hours. Some showrooms are open only one or two days a month, particularly in summer.
Manufacturer outlets
The right bargain basement feel. You can discover something terrific and get a great deal.
Are prices negotiable?
Advisor tip: Ask for the best discount. The price you may see on the tag may actually not be the lowest price.
Is it really a good price if it’s not the right piece?
Advisor tip: Sometimes, many of the pieces here are still on sale because the style is outdated, or the quality won’t stand the test of time.
